Shared Story mode allows two players to experience the story side-by-side in online co-op. Each player is given control of a different character and at certain points in the game the story will branch off, giving each player a different perspective of the events.

Actually sounds kinda cool.

As a film, it would be fun, but familiar and forgettable. You have to have a taste for it. But as co-op adventure game, Man of Medan is unparalleled.

Feel free to disregard any criticism coming from those who played it alone. All they'll see is a budget-version of Until Dawn.

Pro-tip: be conservative in the voice channel and don't divulge too much info that your two characters wouldn't naturally be able to share with each other in-game. Be careful not to spoil your first playthrough!
