Can you make an open world game for just $2 million?

No, we cannot make an open world game for $2 million. Shenmue will be produced using both the funds raised from the Kickstarter and through other funding sources already secured by Ys Net Inc. We are very sorry, but due to contractual obligations, details of outside investments will not be disclosed.

We are happy to announce that Shenmue III for PC will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Honestly surprised I didn't see this coming.

Epic is funding the cost of all Kickstarter refunds resulting from Shenmue III’s move to the Epic Games store, so that refunds won’t reduce Ys Net’s development funding.

Barely five minutes into the game, and not only do I see a pair of capsule toy dispensers, but somebody asking me if I wanted to play Lucky Hit! Not quite what I was expecting from my visit to Guilin. But perhaps it's what somebody might expect from playing a Shenmue game.

And as expected, the bad fanservice has crept into the English dub thanks to Corey Marshall's intolerable Ryo impressions. You can almost hear him snickering under his breath after each line. Too bad the game still uses dubtitles, meaning that if you switch to the Japanese voice track, and have any familiarity with the language, you'll be reading subtitles that don't match up with what's being said.

The other voice actors perform decently enough. It's only Marshall that's stinking up the dub.

A word of caution, Steam version does not support Steam cloud. I very nearly lost my 10 hour save through computer maintenance because I'd assumed that since the Shenmue I & II Steam release supported it, surely Shenmue III did as well. Not so! Back up and restore your saves manually, which can be found here: \Users\"YourUsername"\AppData\Local\Shenmue3\Saved
