The game dies as soon as you rescue Peach. Yeah, there's endgame content, but there's practically no motivation for doing any of it. If you really want to destroy the game, hit one of those endgame blocks that reveal star locations on the map. It saps every last remnant of joy from the world. Finding little treasures on your own was half the fun to begin with.
The finale is strong enough as is. What a great note to go out on! I see no reason to continue further.

That being said, if it was the only Switch game I owned and I had no access to my PC, PS4, or PS Vita, I'd gladly continue playing.
